Can anyone help me with starting problem with my ATV?
Excessively hot exhaust may be the result of fuel mixture misadjustment. Depending on the model (and you didn't specify), this could be pretty inexpensive to fix. If the bike is running normally, however (not missing or backfiring or dieseling), it is probably okay. But a check-up by your local mechanic would not be amiss. Have your husband get his oil and filter changed (never a bad idea) and discuss the heat issue with the wrench.

you are guessing the pipe was red hot. if it in fact was, then there may be a problem, but if you are basing your guess on the discoloration of the pipe, that bluish discoloration normally occurs with age. as far as a car side-swiping him, he may need to hone his defensive driving skills. Is there an ATV rack that can carry 3 quads in a pickup?
If the headers (the part right by the cylinder head) is actually red hot then there is burning fuel escaping from the exhaust valves, either because the mix is too rich or the valve timing is off. I don't know what model you have, but if it is a new tech four stroke then the exhaust should glow cherry red after dark. It is a sign that the unit is running properly and jetted slightly lean (more air than fuel). I don't believe you have any thing to worry about.is a h-d 883 sportster to small for a 6' tall person?
