It is being sold at a dealership, it has 45,000miles, I am told it is in good running condition. It had new tires put on last year, and had it's carb cleaned and starter redone. This would be my first bike and I'm a little clueless on what I'm doing.

The price seems a little steep to me. I own and ride daily a 1983 Yamaha XJ750 Maxim with 46,000, in excellent condition and I love it! The only problem I've had with my bike is my throttle cable. I went to the local bike shop and for $15 got a new cable. So far, I've had no problems with my bike. With regular maintenance, this bike is still cruising the highways. No, it is over priced. You are looking at a 26 year old bike that will require a lot of work to keep running.You can buy new for 3500 to 5500 dollars and finance for 3 or 4 years and come out ahead. Depending on the size engine and brand you want to look at. Then you will have a warrenty and little or no problems for a few years if you drive careful..
for $2000, you should be able to find something from someone local that is at least 10 years newer that that. Any foreign bike that old is only worth no more than $750 no matter what the condition.

Alex, Yea definitely over price, I have my 2003 Yamaha YZF 600 R for sale only 7790 miles, silver and black for 5000.00.This bike is a great starter bike, gives you the crotch rocket feel, but you also not leaning over the front end like some of the RR or race ready bikes, Also for your first bike you want something that is sound and wont give you any problems for the first couple years, if you send me an email I can send you a couple pics of my bike. but I agree that a bike that is 26 yrs old for 2000 is over priced ALOT. when you could have a 4 yr old bike for only 3000 more and know its ready to run and wont give you any problems. If it is in really good condition offer a lower price, dealers took this in for a trade and want to get the highest price they can for it. I am sure they offered next to nothing for the trade in value. Go on Ebay see how much they sold for and offer the avaerage going rate. You may be surprised to find them eager to sell it especially if you have done your research on the prices. They are not stupid they know how much this bike is worth and it's resale value, they will still try to get the maximun amount they can. Be informed and barter to get a better price afterall, a bike this old won't have a warrentee. The Virago is a good bike, I have owned a 1985 750.Overpriced. Kelly Blue Book lists the retail at just over $1000 for a bike in good condition. But to have had work done on it and for being as old as it is, you are going to spend more time working on it than you want. For that price you should be able to pick up something newer and in much nicer condition. The Virago is a good bike. You may also want to check out a 750 honda shadow. If you are a smaller person (short) you could look at a 250 honda rebel. If you can handle a heaver bike there is the 650 yamaha v-star. But you really should shop around some more.
No,$2,000 is way to much,especially for that age,the japs discontinue parts after 10 years so you would have problems finding parts for the bike as well. for that much money you could find something newer and probably in better shape. good luck.

NO. It's worth maybe $750... if it is in good shape.i would not give that much. i wouldn't even buy a bike that old. i doubt you could find parts for one that old. don't buy it.
