Actually it helps a lot because you are already comfortable with leaning. Even though I rode a bicycle as a kid and had driven standard cars for many years, for me the most difficult and scary part was the leaning and trusting my bike not to fall. In fact the two other girls in my class had been riding pillion on their boyfriends' bikes for 8-10 yrs and they progressed much faster than I. Finally, my instructor, in exasperation, took me on the back of his bike and took me through some very "scary for me" leaning exercises and showed me that the bike won't fall. I am now a very proficient, unscared rider and I love riding. So, as to your question yes, yes, yes, yes!

Not really, its not the same thing. Just get on the bike, get used to how it feels ands the weight is distributed, then just start riding, slowly at first of course, and watch out for all the cars, because they won't be watching for you. Good luck,and avoid the cages.
