Where is the starter solenoid on Yamaha Virago 700?

Question:
Help! I have a 1985 Yamaha Virago 700. I need to find the starter solenoid, or starter relay, for my motorcycle. Where is that located on my motorcycle?

Folks...i need a cool name for my web-site where i will be selling classic restored bikes like vespas and part

My motorcycle isn't starting -- the starter motor doesn't turn, although the headlight dims and the OIL light comes on when I push the starter button.

Why buy a harley when you can buy a more reliable bike?

It's located under the seat. It should be silver and round, with two thick cables attached with nuts and washers. You can jump it out (short across the leads) with a screwdriver or wrench to bypass it and see if your starter will spin. The solenoid should click loudly when you hit the starter button. It's possible that your starter is frozen. You can remove it and attach it to a battery charger or battery directly to see if you can get it to spin. It's pretty common for starters to freeze after sitting for extended periods. Take it to your nearest starter/alternator repair shop...they can rebuild it better than new, for much cheaper than a new one would cost. Good luck!
