What year rear ends will fit a 96 honda fourtrax?

Question:
i have a 96 300 honda fourtrax 4x4 and the rearend is making a noise. a freind gave me a 85,86 or 87(not exactly sure) honda 350 fourtrax 4x4 and the rearends look the same but the book says 88 to 00 it does not say anything about any of the older models. does anyone know if the rearends will interchage ?? thanks for the help
