I'm buying a 2001 Yamaha R6 but i think it might be stolen becouse the guy i am buying it from has another bike also an R6 thats beat up and uses it for parts plus he bought an odomoter of ebay becouse he said the old one birned out so im thinking he switched the frames and is giving me the title to a diffrent frame and the frame is also polished so cant see the vin number. is there anything ican do before hand to make sure its not stolen, maby make him sign somthing or...

Odomoters don't "burn out". Odometers get switched out when people want to lie about the mileage, or when the item is stolen, both of which are illegal of course. Just tell him you want to verify the VIN, and do it in front of him. Don't let him point it out for you either, find it yourself. If he acts shady, then you know it's stolen. call the police dept and tell them that your wary about this bike get the vin number and tag numbers the vin is on the frame and engine block if the engine number is differant ask the police to run that also just to be sure look for a scratched out vin the odomometer did not burn out the motor for the numbers burned out a very easy fix he did not need to go and get one off of ebay auto zone sells the motors it seems fishy to me also talk to the police they will be more than happy to help you they are more knowing in this area as they deal with stolen cars and bikes on a daily basiswhen the true owner sees his parts on your bike he's gonna whup your *** and all us other bikers are gonna help em.
