I don't need to drive a car - just a scooter or small motorbike - thing is here in England i can just use my provisional and CBT - so abroad is this acceptable?....Apparantly they are cracking down on tourists hiring bikes in India - and i don't want to be stopped and fined!

If you have JUST a provisional - you don't have a licence, and no country will accept what is essetially a 'learners permit' to hire a vehicle.what time does northants wild and wooly event start?
If you manage to pass a car driving test in the UK - you automatically get an 'internationally recognised licence' being a Full UK Driving Licence.

OK you do not have a liscence to drive a car in UK, so no they will not give you an internation liscence. As you need to past your test first

No such thing as an international driving licence. It's a permit. It will cost you around £6 from the AA or RAC - just print off the form from their website.I think you need to be a qualified driver too. Not provisional.
