Question:
Obviously don't expect the same performance but still want something that goes when you open the throttle. KTM LC4 and CCM RC30 have caught my eye so far but haven't had the opportunity to ride either. Should I go for one of these or is there something better out there for similar money?

Do off road motorcycles need to be registered?
i ride a drz400sm slightly tuned. akrapovic exhaust etc. not too much power but real fun.Does Honda have a small street legal trail bike?
DRZ400SM Great funI ride a '94 Kawasaki KLX 650 with some motor mods. Really fun bike, plus the sproket change allows for cruizing at 70 and tops out at 115!
Whats the loudest slipon exhaust for a GSXR 600 k6?
You want to build it; go ride some. The 400's are way lighter than the big bores, and seem to me a little more fun to ride because of the weight difference. The mid to late 90's XR's are a great choice and there are a ton of aftermarket components for it. A Yamaha WR 450 comes to mind as well.
I have put some time on a '98 XR 400 with the 440cc kit, high rev, full pipe and some other goodies, and it is a blast! Super light compared to my 650 and in a drag race my Kawa will barely gain any ground on it.
Some places are selling pre done units, 17" front tire and bigger brakes and all that jazz. I looked at a KTM 950 SM and it seems like a prett hot (bigger) bike. The $12k price tag is a bummer.
Get yourself a CRF450R not the CRF450F. Get it road registered and change the wheels. Much better bike and loads more grunt.
