This morning, I had made it all the way to work and in the parking lot, after applying the rear brake, the engine died and the rear tire would not turn. Then I let it sit for an hour, it started right up and brake had released.

The correct solution is to rebuild the caliper,but then you will have to bleed the system. Try the following for an easier fix. Remove caliper,pump brake untill piston is out quite a way(but don't pop it out) pull the dust seal back or off,clean piston and lightly gease w/ caliper grease,replace seal.I also suggest new brake pads,this will put the piston at rest as far in the caliper body as possible. Try this it will more than likely solve you problem. I forgot an important step,before re-installing caliper,use a C-clamp to push the piston back in. After re-reading your ? I suspect you have other than a brake problem,you may have a motor or trani bearing problem, ?is there any places to ride a dirt bike near boone,nc?
You may have gotten dirt in the brake cable line I had that happen on my dirtbike a few years ago? sorry dont know much about street bikesI am buying a bike from her, but she is still financing it?
--The brake caliper will have to be rebuilt.--Crud builds up under the seal. The seal grabs hold of the brake piston, making it difficult to return.
--Also the piston gets rusted and pitted. The piston isn't smooth anymore and won't slide past the seal.
--To check if that's the problem - when the brake locks up again, hit the caliper towards the disc with a soft hammer, a block of wood and heavy hammer or kick it with your boot heal. That should force the piston back into the caliper.
