You can do it yourself and you can try and feel it and see what works but if you don’t know what you are looking for your personal opinion doesn’t mean squat.

I have my suspension set by someone I trust and it would cost $30 for his time and knowledge. That is the best $30 you can buy. **Not everyone who says they know how to set a bike up knows what they are doing** many just read it of a message board somewhere so be careful.

I suggest going to a local expert first and tweeking after that. Make one adjustment at a time to get a feel of what you changed.

The mistake most make is to adjust it too stiff. You need to have some "top out " for your suspension to work properly.The rule of thumb is 25-30% of the total travel should be dedicated to top out.
Additionally top out should be close to equal ,front and rear.
Heavier wt fork oil will slow the speed that the fork tubes travel.
Aside from that it becomes a game of trial and error and personal preference.
most sports bike suspension is designed to operate for the average rider in the mid range of settings..
so if you weigh about 90 KGs start with the settings about mid range & tweek to suit...

if your lighter set the compression a bit less & the rebound a bit more visa versa for fat guys/ girls (or if you carry a pillion all the time)
& heavier fork oil is always a good start to.
