You must make sure you have approximately 10mm of freeplay at the end of the clutch lever. If there is no slack in the cable, the clutch will not release all the way, causing it to slip, and wear out prematurely. Adjust freeplay by loosening the lockscrew on the clutch perch, and screwing the inner cable adjust screw clockwise, then retighten the lock screw. If the clutch still slips after adjusting for freeplay, then the clutch discs need to be replaced. Any Yamaha/ATV dealer should diagnose your clutch problem for free, and provide you with an estimate for clutch replacement, if it needs it. Always use genuine Yamaha replacement parts, they last the longest.
