Question:
I have a 1978 Yamaha DT 175E. I am repainting it from red to green. The only thing that i need to paint is the gas tank because the only other coloured things on the bike are the fenders and side panels, which are plastic. Can i do it myself? and how do I? How much will it cost if i have it done professionally? I already sanded the gas tank with 400 grit sandpaper, through the paint and primer all the way to the metal. I saw on American Chopper that they put a powder coat on a bike and i am wondering what that is.
what kind of oil do you use in a 4 stoke atv?
Overall i am a teenager who is new to the motorcycle community and am excited to get involved. I picked up this old bike and i am almost done fixing it up. Just need cosmetic. Is it worth going to get it professionally done although it is such a small job? And can they paint the plastic?

Go to the bookstore (or library) and find a book on basic body and paint procedures. Being a '78 model I'd say you would be OK to do this one yourself. Powder coat is a form of paint that uses dry, 'powdered' paint that uses an electrical charge to bond the paint to metal. I would suggest you locate a local automotive paint supply store and buy some high quality aresol cans of paint and primer. These are MUCH better quality than hardware store brands and are fuel resistant. I have done this very thing way back when I was young. If you are careful and spend the time prepping (this is what decides what a good paint job is vs an OK job) you will be amazed at the results. Plastic is tricky but can be refinished. You will need to study-up on high adhesion primers, etc before you tackle this. Go for it.
