i have a 1990 H reg honda cg 125 its a great bike very reliable and it gets me 2 and from work its a great bike but i would like a bit more power from it i can do 50mph comfortably but would like it to go at least 70mph how can i do this can i add anything to the petrol whats the best way to achieve this any help would be very helpfull thanx

No chance mate.The CG was a low tech replacement for the CB125 s in the 80s and is not restricted it is low tech with only 1 cam lobe and neither can it be upgraded using bits from another honda. Flog it. The handling is marginal over 55 in any case as are the brakes. There are plenty of 150 or 180 cc CB125s out there, and the old Honda 125 twin can be tuned for 80mph real easy by retro fitting the earlier parts and it handled OK by Jap standards.
If you must get it to go faster fit a race fairing rear sets lower handlebars or clipons and a back sprocket with a few less teeth, you will look a right prat but it should be 10 mph faster and use less fuel
I would find out if it is resticted or not. If it is then get it de-restricted this will increase the speed to around 70 - 80 Mph.

i love bikes, and owning a bike is in my blood. my family has had most honda bikes and i dont think there are any parts for them that would help make them faster, but i have a cheap bike (bmw F 650 GS) and can easily get upto 80 mph on the highway.You can have the engine bored out to maybe 175cc but not a lot else will make a great deal of diffrence without spending big money.

There are lots of products on the market but in my experience are a waste of money, engine additives, etc make very little diffrence and playing around with the engine can wreck the excellent reliability.

The Honda is a real good basic hack, work runs, etc but it has not sporting intentions at all and making it go much faster will just show up the limitations of the suspension, the frame, and especially the brakes.
These bikes are built to a price and all components are 'as good as each other'. By improving one significantly will put stress on the others, you'd be better off passing your test and buying a 600 bandit for example and start to find out what riding a real motorcycle is like.

These bikes aren't restricted. You need a bigger bike really. You could get a bike mechanic to tune it a bit but on a bike that size you wouldn't get a huge result.Too cold to start my motorcycle; what can I do to make it start?
It would be better checking how it's running at the moment, is it restricted? I sat my test on one of them and it did 65mph into the wind no problem. (80mph with a tail wind, a bit hairy on such small tyres).Try looking into an after market exhaust, it'll sound better and add about 4-5 horsepower to it.

as others have said there is not much you can do.an air filter will only make a difference at top end and not enough for you to notice.as for changing the pipe,most motorcycle companys have the pipes on smaller bikes set just right so changing can acually make it worse rather than better.if u have no full licence yet then you should look at something like the cbr125. if your not doing big miles get yourself something like a suzuki rg125fun or cagiva mito for they will do over the ton in full power set upMore Questions & Answers ...
