Question:
I have a 93 ninja that has been sitting a couple of yearsand there's a bunch of rust in the gas tank. Any ideas on how to clean it out?
Answers:
What kind of motorcyle do you have and how much did it cost?
Get a Tank Repair Kit from KBS Coatings which contains the 3 needed steps of cleaning, etching & sealing. (i.e. AquaKlean, Rustblast & Gold Standard Tank Sealer). KBS has 2 size cycle kits to choose from... 5 gal or 12 gal tanks.Their Tank Sealer is the best. It's formulated in a thin viscosity so it can seep deep into the open metal pores, and then as it cures & dries into a rock hard nonporous fuel impervious seal, it becomes permanently anchored to the inside of the tank.

2007 Kawasaki Z1000 question...?
Note if an old sealer coating has failed, you'll need to strip the tank first. Dad's Easy Strip sold at most Walmart's is a good choice of stripper.
Use the Por-15 kit for motorcycles. A 3-step process that works very well. Just be patient and follow the directions. Also don't forget to remove everything, the sending unit, outlet, even the filler cap.
Harley riders only! Can you believe?
You might get away with just throwing some nuts and bolts in there with a bit of petrol and giving it a good shake untill all the loose rust comes out. But once it's started rusting it really needs neutralizing and sealing to stop further problems. The por-15 kit has worked well for me too.I have used the Tank Sealer by KBS Coatings on numerous motorcycle fuel tanks. I like it because it is flexible and will not crack as the tank expands and contracts. And it is less expensive than pro-15.
