It had a dead battery so i charged it and put it back in. Then cranked it up and took a minute but finally started after i gave it some throttle. It ran for a few seconds and died on me. I did this a few times and finally it just stopped starting. It trys to start but won't. What do you think? a starter maybe? but why did it start for a little bit and then quit again? Help please.....

1st...Is you fuel tap set to "on". I know that's simple but we've all done it. How long has it been since you rode. If the battery was dead, it may be damaged and need a new battery. I suggest getting a battery tender or the equivalent for off season battery maintenance. If the bike has set up for a while, you may have trash in your carbs blocking the jets. Like the other post said, check your fuel filter. Fuel Injected or carbureted. If carb'd, did you turn the petcock on? I have one of each and had made that simple mistake a couple of times.

What do you mean by "it just stopped starting"? Did it not fire, or did it stop cranking? How long did you crank it? Did you let the starter cool off between attemps? You could have fried the starter.

Recharge the battery. I suggest a slow overnight charge using a Battery Tender.

Just for chits an giggles, put new spark plugs in. Never hurts and with luck they are cheap off the shelf units available through any auto parts store.

Trying to run a sport bike with a weak or dead battery can foul the spark plugs. Fouled plugs in a sport bike will make it very hard to start. If the plugs were just a little fouled, it's a crap shoot as to whether it'll run, run bad, or just foul the plugs enough to keep the bike from running
Change the spark plugs and see if that cures your problem.
