I am soon going to be 17, and hopefully getting a motorbike license, and I am setting my eyes on an aprilia rs125. What I don't get is all this about some sort of "restriction". Could someone explain this to me, like what it is for, and who it applies to etc. etc. Can you only buy these bikes in the uk with restrictions? I need it all explaining, as I don't know if it applies to me. it is only 125cc, so why is there a restriction??

its restricted so you dont kill yourself on day one!
the manufacturers put restrictors, either in teh fuel (carb) or the exhaust..(baffle) it stops the 125 being the snorting stroker it can be...

In the uk you can only ride a 125 with up to 14.6bhp on a cbt. Rs125's (and other 2 stroke 125s) make quite a bit more than this in standard form (25-30bhp) so dealers use various methods to bring them down to legal power before selling them on the uk market.Questions about a motorcycle license in Michigan?
With the RS they usually just unplug the power valve and tuck the connector somewhere out of the way. So with that bike derestriction is as simple as plugging it back in to give you the full ~30bhp.

I had an RS 125 ... although several years ago now... when i passed my test i had it de-restricted... it was just a case of having the power valve in the exhaust re-connected... then it scared the living s**t out of me... so i sold it for a cbr 600 .. much more civilised. take care out there!!More Questions & Answers ...
