I have a 1000rr and wouldn't recommend it as a first bike. All of the new 600cc bikes (R6, 600rr, gsxr 600, zx6) have more power than you will need and they turn very well. I was actually considering downgrading from my 1000rr to a 600 because the bike is heavy, turns slower than a 600, and eats tires (which are very expensive).If you have some self control and you are responsible, I would start with a 600rr or similar bike. An sv650 is also a good starter bike but it doesnt seem like the "look" that you want, and it will be much slower than say, an R6.
Get a 600 and take it very easy. You can get in way over your head very easily in any motorcycle if your not responsible.

PS- take an MSF course and when you have a bit of road experience, take a beginner course at a track school.
A CBR1000R is a lot of bike. It requires alot of self control and throttle control.

A liter bike like the CBR1000R is way too fast to get as a first bike even if you are Bubba on the dirt track.

I would recommend starting on an F4I, SV650 or 1000,
FZ6 or FZ1, etc. Don't start on a CBR1000 or any other liter bike.

You will drop it and it will cost 3k to fix. get through the dropping stage on a smaller bike then get the CBR1000r.

street and dirt is 2 different animals. best to start out small on sport bikes. that road is a hell of alot more painful than dirt ever will be. speed can easily get u killed, and sport bikes are the most difficult bike to spot in traffic. in some states, if u are found speeding, u automatically forfeit right of way.which means, if ur haulin azz 80 mph in a 40 mph zone, and a cage left turns u and takes u out.the cager wont be cited for right of way..but like that will matter much since u'll be dead.go with a crotch rocket, any kind, any size. if you wreck it, that one less piece of crap on the road.
