my question is what are the requirement after you sign the contract. i.e insurance, maintenance, other fee not included in contract? i know why i want to get one. and i know i will be paying for a name. but tell me the turth, how reliable is it. give some real answers.

u will need insurance already in effect before the dealer will give u the keys. some say a road king is an electra glide without the fairing. some dealers will easily throw in the 1st service, others not, but in the 2 years i've had my sportster, i've had zero...zip, nada, none...zero problems. zero oil leaks also.i have noticed this tho, and i'm not sure if this will be the final thing for ur decision.the e-glide standard is almost 1300 bucks cheaper than the cheapest road king..go figure.

Harley's are NOT the same old oil leakers they once were! They are dependable bikes that hold their resale value better than any make in the world! you will need full coverage for insurance...you will need to have the required service during warranty done at a Harley authorized dealer and watch out for the "dealer prep" charges...they are negotiable.
The saying goes, if it don't have a leak, there's something wrong. Harleys are notorious for bad oil leaks, but strong motors and tranny's. It's american made, so expect something to break. They look good though. You should get a deuce!

The newer ones are pretty reliable. At one another company owned The name "Harley Davidson" and quality wasn't so great, but this was several years ago. I like the Buell, which is really no more than a hand fitted Harley. It even has the Harley name on it.I think my bike is flooded. Motorcycle help.?
I have an 01 FLHT Standard - No problems just oil and tires in the last 30,000 + miles. I use it for 2 weeks of touring every summer - one up. Harley does have an extended warranty for piece of mind and a large dealer network. I had 6 years extended on my bike and never used it. Only oil leak my twin cam ever had was from the air filter on hot days when I was really pushing it (Blow by - google it to find out more).

Extended warranty is a waste of money. Find a good independent shop for maintenance. NOT a Harley dealer. Run good oil like Mobil 1 V-Twin in the motor and Bel-Ray gear saver in the trans. I put well over 100,000 miles on an '89 and only replaced a stator at around 30,000. Give her good maintenance and she'll treat you right.Would you be upset if your gf flashed at a concert at requests of other men?
Have a few friends with new Harleys. (one with vrod and one with electra glide)They still leak oil and vibrate too much. And they still aren't as reliable as a jap bike. Pros- They are comfortable, and you are buying the Harley name. The higher end models also have a higher resale value but I dont really think that holds true for some of the lower end models. Just look at your local paper and see how many harleys are for sale.There shouldn't be any fees in the contract aside from tax, and title/registration fees in your state. You will also need to carry full coverage.

I am giving you first hand experienced information. I own a 2004 Road King Custom and my husband has a 2003 100th Anniversary Ultra Classic Electra Glide. They are both extremely dependable. The only maintenance that we have had to do to EITHER is an oil change - and if you play your cards right.you can negotiate a couple of free services with your purchase. Yeah, some say you are paying for a name, but in reality you are paying a brotherhood and a lifestyle. You cant put a price on something like that. I would not trade either of ours for anything...other than another Harley! lol As for insurance...we have full coverage all year round and it is about $300 year. Dont worry about all the people on here giving you a bunch of bs - they just dont get it. It is our money and we will do with it as we please. First off DEREK don't have a clue. That said the new HD's are fine. Everything that's mechanical can break. Honda had a big problem recently with it's V-Twin single pin crank motors. Buy the Harley now and this way you won't regret it later. Every manufacturer on the planet has copied H-D recently but none can duplicate.
