NInja 250 clutch not working? Please Help me out!?

Question:
My have a Ninja 250 2005model,
I have been riding it just fine.
I didn't ride it over the weekend, because of the chilly weather.
Today,(monday) I start up my bike in neutral. The bike started right up.
HOWEVER, when I was holding the clutch and shifted to first gear. My bike jerked and died.
I tried to roll the bike with the clutch being held, but I can't.
It is obviously still in gear.
I play around for those adjustable nods both on the handle and the one next to the engine.
I don't see anything wrong with it. They are both have a 2-3inchs gap. i think.
What else could cause that?
Give me some ideas.
ALl in puts welcome!
Thanks!

Is it OK to warm up my motorcycle when it's on the kickstand?

Do what Gaurdrails says. I can add that 250 Ninja's commonly do what you're saying when new or cold. The clutch plates have a tendency to stick together. Your clutch is ok. My Ninja quit doin' it after bein' well broken in. You can rock the bike in gear with the clutch pulled in, dead engine to break them free or increase your RPM a little when you engage the shifter. Warm it up first. It's just a 250 Ninja it won't get away from ya. That's one of the reasons it's a great starter bike. Your learning. Keep asking questions. You made a good choice.

Which sport bike is better between the when it comes to 599-600 cc?

2-3 inches of gap is way to much. The clutch isn't getting fully disengauged.
Adjust the clutch cable "free play" to 3/8-1/4"
When the cable is adjusted properly, the clutch lever should only be able to be pulled in that amount, until the cable starts to move.

Does anyone know where i can find a 125 dirt bike for around $600 in the mass, nh area?

Agree with guard rail. The clutch lever should have a very small amount of "free play" before it actaully starts to engage the clutch. Watch the engine (where the clutch cable connects) while you check the free play in the lever. If the lever can move 2-3 inches without actuating that lever on the motor.. your clutch cable is too loose.

Harley-Davidson?

If the clutch cable is fine, Your clutch basket may have grooves in it that are preventing the plates from moving properly.. this can happen if you tend to pop the clutch alot...
