What I always hear is to start off on a very small bike, like a XR/CRF50. At a stop, put both feet down and give it gas, let your shoes drag on the ground and the pressure pushing down will bring the front of the bike up. The point of this is to feel how far back you can actually go before you feel like you're about to fall off the back. Once that gets boring, or easy to find the "neutral zone" try with one foot and don't use nearly as much pressure or else the bike will want to fall to the side. The bottom line is, practice makes perfect, but you can't be scared to give it some gas. So, a cheap bike and plenty of protection is best, when you get the hang of popping up to that neutral zone, feather the clutch instead of letting off and on the gas. Once again, practice makes perfect, but once you master that, it's simple.
