You should check Craigslist regularly. Forget about Sportbike or Cruiser, $1,000 is scooter money unless you find a really good deal. Could happen during the winter, but if you can spend $1,500, You could get a dependable low miles Japanese bike. By definition the cruisers aren't ridden as hard, so are likely to be in better mechanical shape.
