Question:
im am 17 and just learned how to ride a dirtbike. since then i have become very interested in it and i want to buy one (mainly for off-road but i want it to be street legal as well). what bike do you recommend? i want at least a 200cc that looks nice - not a playbike. i was looking to spend no more than $5,000 for a new one and i will probably be financing it. i also dont want a dual sport bike - they look gay. gimme a suggestion for a decent off road bike and i will add lights and all the other legal crap afterwards.

get a honda. They have several different models, and they aren't that bad in pricing either. Just don't get a racing bike. Get a trail bike if you're still learning. The trail bikes have lights already, and they look damn nice too. They are also very dependable, put gas and oil in it and go.

Why wouldn't you get a dual purpose bike? If your gonna buy lights and everything to put on it, just get the dual sport! That's retarded! I would get a Suzuki DR200SE, a Yamaha XT225, or a Kawasaki KLX250S.How many scooters were at the 2005 Isle of Wight Scooter Rally?
if you get a dirt only and add stuff you are makin a mistake. for 5000 you can get what you want from the factory... and think bigger... sounds like you want a race bike, and to be honest, a race bike may be too much for you. get a good trail bike, like the Honda XR 250, or CRF 230, maybe even an XR 400. learn how to ride on them first. they are good reliable bikes with desent power, then sell it and move to something like the YZF 250 Yamaha, or the Honda CRF 250.you can pick up a used xr 400 for about 2500-3000
good luck.
