in california, the only time u can lane split, is if u can do it safely, only in the middle of 2 lanes; not on the sides that has solid white or yellow lines, and u cannot be more than 10-15 mph over the speed of cars. so, if traffic is moving smoothly at 65, lane splitting isnt nessisary. and it would be illegal to try to blast thru a traffic bottleneck at 40 while the cars are barely crawling.
What is the best slip-on exhaust for 05 R1?
Not only is it illegal, but it's dangerous as well. I would strongly advise you to avoid the practice!!How do i stop the drive belt on a gocart from streachin and slipin so much?
It depends on where you live. It is legal in some states. What does the rake and stretch refer to on a chopper?
I think it's legal in some states. I don't understand why anyone would want to do it. It seems like you're trying to piss off the cagers around you and some will take it upon themselves to stop you. It looks like a reason for road rage and/or a collision waiting to happen.Who would be interested in riding the K1200GT Motorcycle to a BMW MOA Rally?
When you are in a California traffic jam in Ca heat riding an air cooled big twin you either lane split safely and slowly or pull on over before you ruin the engine.Ca is smart enough to know this, plus the fact that motorcycles take up as much space as a car when in traffic...let them go ahead and traffic goes down.
Plus, it encourages more riders to commute on efficient two wheelers. They even let us use the commuter lanes.
It is one thing Ca does right.
It ain't legal in any of the forty-odd states I've ridden in my near 55 years. In fact, the last ticket I got on my '63 Panhead, over 20 years ago was a chikenshit ticket from an @$$hole scooter cop with a bad attitude, right here in my own town.
Not only is it illegal, it's also dangerous as HELL, as cage drivers can't see past the noses on their face, and NEVER expect a bike to come down the line between them and the cage in the next lane.
Much as I love the show, I don't care WHAT Bronson did, it's STILL a bust.
AFAIK, lane splitting is only legal in the last place one would expect it to be.
Need advice for Buell dirt track project.?
California. Imagine that.
Lane splitting is not dangerous in and of itself. It's a simple matter to navigate a 3' wide vehicle (considering wide handlebars) through a 4' wide or wider space. The problem is if you're doing 80 and the traffic is slugging along a 45 then you might be seen as suicidal.
Does anybody have any info on Honda XR100 dirt bikes in the Sacramento, California area?
The second problem is the ahole cagers that are all twisted up and angry. Sitting in traffic, wishing they had a motorcycle, and getting something better than 12 MPG in their air conditioned Suburbans and Expeditions. You're moving, they're not. Sooner or later one of them is going to jamb you up just to "get even".
I've done it, and enjoyed the thrill. 100% illegal where I live but what the hell, why not?
NE1 need a new Icon helmet SZ Sm? Couple fine scratches on back. Asking retail price.?
Lane sharing is only legal in California. It is great wish it was legal everywhere. For you wheenies claiming its unsafe, how would you know if youve never done it?in california it is, in ohio it isnt expressly written as illegal. in fl and in pa, it's expressly written as illegal.

Bajaj150 pulshar bake puch cange?
The laws change from state to state on "if" it's illegal or not. But for me, I don't care cuz if the cop in traffic wants to get me he better be on a bike too. I get get down the line faster than they'll make it through traffic. And it's not dangerious if you know how to ride. It's illegal in South Carolina. Can a motorcycle with two seperate lights on the front turn on off at will?
It's not illegal in all states. But where I live outside of Detroit, it's not a good idea - unless you want to be crushed by a cager on a cell-phone.Where is the absolute cheapest place I can get oem suzuki parts?
Only if you have a legal exhaust system installed..Im dreaming of having offroad bike on streets?
rashmaster has the wrong term.Sharing lanes can be legal.
In NH, splitting lanes, as usually defined, is not legal.
The laws are written simply, and to the point.
You may ride side by side, two per lane.
You may not pass another vehicle in the same lane (unless you are a Police officer in the performance of your duties).
You may not cross the center dividing line except where marked (passing zone). Touching the line counts as crossing it.

Hey, "Commandos'"! "Lane Splitting" is riding the line BETWEEN lanes of traffic and between CARS, and is ILLEGAL! (As well as DANGEROUS as HELL!)
"Lane SHARING", where two bikes share the same lane of traffic, IS legal!
I KNOW, 'cause my ol' man got a ticket for LANE SPLITTING just last year, from the CHiP's, in SAN DIEGO, CA! (It said so, right under offenses!)
