There are not any outstanding brands out there. Some have moregremlins than others. Harleys older than 5-6 years old had all types of problems. Suzuki and Yamaha used to be plauged by electrical
issues. Honda used to have early shaft drive problems and Kawasaki...nothing really. The Kawasaki Nomad's built before 2000 had a plastic oil gear instead of a metal one, but Kawasaki will still fix them due to a major recall.

Most Harleys made since 2001 and well maintained Japanese bikes made in the last 20 years are dependable if well maintained. If you get into exotic racing bikes made anywhere be prepared to become a mechanic.In the UK Italian bikes have always had a bad reputation for reliability. The main weakness usually being the electrics which seemed to hate the British climate & would always let you down in the wet & cold weather.

If reliabilty is what you are looking for the most riders consider Honda as the machine to go for, I've had many different Japanese bikes & they very rarely go wrong, I am particularly fond of Yamaha too.

i think that you get what you pay for, i have owned Suzuki's and have just upgraded to a Harley both have pros and cons, the Suzuki had squealing brakes, the Harley is lazy and does not want to start. i think that that cheap bikes like hyosung make look attractive for the price but will eventually cost in the long run. but then again i have never owned a hyosung.In 51 years of riding ,and 39 motorcycles later, my experience says Harley Davidson, and it is the most expensive to maintain.

I have owned Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, and currently own a Harley. I have had be trailered home twice. Once on a Honda CB750F(electrical short), and once on a Honda Shadow Spirit (dealer said it was vapor lock?).I would imagine every brand has their issues, but I don't think any one brand is most or least dependable given you take care of your motorcycle.

Lets look at what bikes are still running after many years. I see plenty of 40's, 50's and 60's Harleys running around. But I've never seen a jap bike older than about 20 years.Have you ever visited a motorcycle junkyard? Not many Harley parts. Lots of Jap stuff.
