Question:
I have a 06' GSXR 600 and was thinking about buying Xena disc lock with the built in alarm. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these or any other disc locks
Answers:
Should I buy this bike? 1999 Suzuki GS500?
I have a xena disc lock and a kryptonite, and i never use the xena. Like the guy above said, it is easily muffled by your thumb. Which is a good thing because it is so easy to set the alarm off by accident when taking it off. The alarm isnt all that loud however. Sensitivity really breaks down over time. The only way I can get the alarm to go off is when I am taking it off the bike with the key. Otherwise nothing works: hitting it, jiggling it, moving it around on the rotor, tilting the bike. Hopefully if i tried to cut through it with an angle grinder it would go off but i have my doubts.Does anyone know where I can locate a 93 RM 250 Suzuki rear shock seal kit?
I don't have any experience yet but I have done some research about the lock. The built in alarm is easily muffled with your thumb. You want to get the disk lock that fits your back tire. The reason for this is because when people steel bikes they usually bring a dolly and a truck. They prop the front, locked wheel, on the dolly and set the bike in neutral and just simply role it away. After doing my research I found its best to buy a steel cable lock and the xena. Attaching your bike to something stationary is key. You should go to youtube and type in disk lock bump. After watching this video I bought the steel cable. Together with the cable lock and disk lock your thief will have to be very clever.I have one that slips over the grip and front brake lever. Its easier to remember to take off than on the disc itself. I had a friend that did it twice, he took off without taking the disc lock off.
How do the locks on the side of a motorcycle work?
Actually, I just use a pair of weather-proof keyed alike padlocks through the drilled holes in the disk, front and back.Yes I own a xena and a regular disc lock. I sometimes use both, one front one back. Remember, if they want it, they'll get it but make it harder for them. The xena alarm is easily masked but even a little noise attract attention some. I have also heard that most cycles are stolen at home or parked long times out of eyesight. I use a cable lock at my home and down to a anchor in the floor.
