Charging a motorcycle battery.?

Question:
I left the ignition switch to my 2005 Yamaha FZ6 on overnight and I drained the battery. I have a battery charger with a 12v 2amp trickle setting. How long should it take to charge?

Answers:

whats a knockdown motorcycle, technically?

the battery is a 12 volt'er. just use a regular battery charger set at 12 volts. after about 2 hrs give or take, it should be at 100% charge. if u decide to try to ride it till charged, it will take u a good 20-30 miles for it to charge up. trickle charger's are designed to feed extremely low charge to keep the battery topped off. they're not intended to be used in place of a standard charger. it will take u quite awhile to charge a drained battery with a trickle...and it will be longer than overnight.

with a trickle charger you run the risk of cooking the battery, you need to get a automatic charger, it shuts off when it fully charged.

Set Charger To 6VOLTS

Whats better a Ducati, or a Triumph?

Most batteries this size are rated about 10 AH. A 2 Amp charge rate should have you fully charged in about 6 hours. A 10 amp charge rate will have you fully charged in 1 1/2 hours. High charge rates are what can cook your battery. If you are using an "automatic" charger (one which shuts off at full charge and then comes on to float charge) set it at 2 amps, and leave it overnight.

Where is the oil screen on a '95 Buick Skylark?

Harbor Fright has a float charger for about $5. This is what I use and it works great. takes about 6 hours and shuts off when a full charge is reached. Then as it sits such as over night if the battery calls for any juice it will do what is called a storage charge.

This will also come in handy if you have to park your bike for and length of time. Simply hook it up and walk away. It will keep the battery at full charge and ready to roll when you are.
Good cheap investment if you ride.
