The only thing you can't really do yourself is anything concerning fuel injection which is becoming increasingly common on bikes. You do need specialised equipment for this.

You can get a "Haynes" manual for most bikes, this is a good place to start, will tell you how to do pretty much everything & they rate each job 1 - 5 for difficulty to give you an idea of what you are letting yourself in for.

It depends on how much cash you have. It's an expensive hobby. Maintenance is not very difficult if you are handy and have some common sense. Otherwise it's just like any other bike. Lube the chain regularly, the occasional oil change, and keep and eye on the pads and tyres which they trend to go through fairly quickly.

the most common task is to change the tires. You have this done at the shop for $30 a tire. (that’s what we charge)

As for taking it to the dealer be my guest but shop around. the dealer does not have the best mechanics and they charge crazy prices. Many people pay for the first service by the dealer and it is hundreds of dollars so they can spend 15 minutes checking if the bolts are tight.

Hmmm save your money and check your own bolts. Also look around for local small shops that work on sport bikes. There are good and bad shops, look till you find one you like and build a relationship with them.

Being a new guy to sport bikes I will let you know there are a lot of people who think they know what they are talking about. Find someone you trust and bounce ideas off them.
Maintaining the bike is not a problem. Ducati may be a little more complicated. If you are not an expert rider you will probably crash the superbike. Not starting out right will be your downfall.
