Question:
It gets pretty cold here in California during the winter, and some days on the morning commute the temperature drops to nearly 50 degrees. Suddenly there are absolutely no other Harley's on the road and I fear its because of the fair-weather nature of my brethren. Given, I hang up the chaps and leather vest for an insulated aerostitch, and I know for a fact most Harley guys wouldn't want to be seen in anything as protective as that. But why is it so many Harley guys park the bike for the cold months and only ride 6 months out of the year? I'm a bada** biker, why aren't they? I'm worried the comments people make about Harley riders being wannabe sheep may be true. So why don't the Harley folks ride in the cold weather?

I live in California as well, it's only cold a couple months of the year and we still ride. There are far fewer poker runs and bike shows to do so the rides are less organized with smaller groups.I don't really consider commuting to work as 'riding' ,I'd like to ride to work ,but as a contractor I have difficulty carrying a thousand pounds of tools and materials in my bags.
We ride almost every weekend and though fewer,we still see plenty of bikes at the Rock Store and Neptunes Net, I guess they're just not commuting to work.
I'm looking for a motorcycle similar to the kawasaki ninja, any suggesstions?

There was a similar question going around about a month ago with regards to riding in the cold weather. With the brand of bike aside it comes down to the "bikers" & "the riders". I don't care if it's 15 degrees outside and frost on the ground..I'm doing my commute back and forth to work. Frankly, most of the cruiser guys are this way...fair weather riders for the most part not all of them of course.I've gotten so tired of cruiser bikes that I've recently sold my Triumph Rocket III and purchased an '07 BMW R1200RT. So now I'm just down to my Ducati & new Beemer.
Permantely ditch your leathers keep your Aerostitch stuff and sell your Harley for a BMW, Ducati, Triumph, etc...and see how many of your "buddies" remain your riding buddies. FTW~

Why would anyone want to ride in the winter not only is it cold (you can’t show off your tats with long sleeves), but if you get caught in the rain it will take hours to polish the chrome and many leather outfits will be ruined after they get wet. Drive your HD/Ford pickup in the Winter then pull the Hogg out of the garage in the Spring.Do china atvs work and which brands do i get?

I saw a guy going down the highway in January one day when it was 7 degrees...Now that is hardcore! So maybe that is just a west coast thing but here in PA if the roads aren't iced over then you will see some bikes out and about.

Well William, its good to see you are actually riding your $30,000 "investment". Although I must warn you that it will depreciate much faster if you actually ride it. Sadly, however, I do believe you are correct as the handful of buttless chappers that I usually pass on the way to work during the summer are nowhere to be found in the winter.
