I have been a pillion on a bike and had a car driver give us eye contact then they tried to run us off the road. This happened more than 10 years ago but I will never forget it and I am remembering it even more now that I am soon to get my bike licence.
My question is why on earth would they do that?
I would love it if one of those crazy people read this and could answer my question honestly...

they simply cant 'see' us. at arm's length, a pencil can hide us from view. they've been trained basically to look for big things, not small things like bikes. some of them are so blind, they'll pull out in front of a semi much less a bike. i dont look at the driver, i watch the front wheels. if they move, i cover the brakes/clutch and get ready to clamp down on them in a split second.What is swingarm suspension in motorcycles?
I'm a biker in the UK, and although this has never happened to me in 20 years, some car drivers are a little resentful of motorcycles being able to carve through traffic jams unimpeded and try to block them off, but this is a very rare occurence. Your experience was a very isolated one and maybe the driver had previous bad experience with a motorcycle or had mental problems. Always report drivers who are dangerous, and go for your licence, motorcycling is a fantastic and enjoyable way of travelling as long as your sensible. Get your licence anyhow. This is a rare occurrence. Most of the time problems with autos is just ignorance rather than a purposeful attack such as you described. What you have as a biker are speed and agility, and you need to learn how using them offsets the lack of seatbelts and airbags. You must learn to AVOID things instead of trusting your vehicle to save you, and it is a different mindset, bordering on paranoia, that will keep you alive.
In your story, the rider should have put as many cars between you and the idiot as possible, and pulled over to call the police if he was really an insistent prick.

I don't have much problem with other drivers, and the few times I have, I just downshifted and put space between us, using my speed and agility to get me back into a safer place on the road.
