Question:
We bought the service contract, the harley is a police issue and it was in a warehouse with others that had been turned in for new ones. The dealer had the file for that vehicle number and that is what was in the file. I am thinking legally here guys.

Harley warranties are for unlimited miles. If, when you say "service contract", you mean an extended warranty, you don't have to worry about mileage at all. As long as the bike was still within the original manufacturer's warranty period when you bought it, you have nothing to worry about. Is the 2008 KLR 650 gonna be anything better than the 2006/2007's...?
Addition: LifeRyder, don't know where you get your information from, but police models are just like anything else when it comes to warranty. I am a motorcop and have purchased two Police Road Kings (we have to buy our own here and the city pays a vehicle allowance). The warranty started on the day I bought it (middle of November) on both bikes, so I'm not sure where your "March" information comes from. My bikes both had October build dates, so there's no way they would have the warranty in effect before ever being built.
2006 began the 2-year warranties. Prior to that, they were 1-year but still had unlimited miles.
Where can I get an auto (motorcycle) loan on Presidents Day?
Remember this..... Harley-Davidson comes with 2 year manufacturer warranty. They were updated to unlimited miles in 2006, if memory serve me correctly.HOWEVER, departments don't buy 'extended' warranties; that's on you, if you so choose.
Police models start there warranty in March of the model year. So if you brought the bike in say June of 2007, that means you have 9 months of factory warranty remaining.
Regardless of the fact that a motorcycle was OR was not issued to a Police Department, the warranty starts in March and ends 24 months later.
Read the fine print in the contract, and check the deductible amount you are subject to. Check also what is going to be covered under that 'extended warranty', you may find it to be an unwise purchase.
I have two such motorcycles; 2000 FLHTPI and 2004 FXDP. The first bought 'used' in May 2001 and the second brought NEW, never issued, in Sept 2004.
