my old 1974 dt 250 yamaha has transmission problems and i want to get more speed out of it how can i want to put a newer liquid cooled 250 or larger motor on my bike i jus dont know how i would like to keep this bike so i want a better motor any ideas besides buying a new bike for all u smart asses out there

MX 250 stuff will bolt on to your engine.....particularly "Top end" engine parts.
Best angle on that is to find a complete engine.
Rebuild the MX engine,and swap that in.

One major performance difference between DT and MX is the ignition system.
Flyweel in particular.
DT's have a large ,heavy, full flywheel.
MX & YZ have Internal Rotor CDI,,practically no mass.
When you don't wear a helmet does'nt that mean you have nothing to protect !!?
So a "Converted" DT will not have throttle response or rpm build of the "race engines".
However,,it remains more tractable in general riding,,lots more stable at low speeds.

You can consider contacting a Local shop,,,have somebody remove the basic engine/carb,etc,,,,and shipping just that.

For starters do like the other guy said,and get some measurements.Then go to your local cycle shop (and your friends houses) and check out what engine will work for you.When you find a good candidate,start looking on ebay.If you get a good mill,then you will have to do some welding,to make the engine mounts work.Also if you can,get the wiring harness,and electrical parts (cdi box,coil ect) from the guy you buy the mill from,it will save the leg work of having to locate these parts.Look on ebay also for the radiators,and any other parts you will need.For instance you may have to swap clutch,and throttle cables if they wont work.Also you will have to weld mounts for your new exhaust,and silencer.Luckily your "drive" is on the left side,that will make things much easier.Also keep in mind that if you do the swap that will make your bike illegal for vintage racing.Expect the total cost to be somewhere around 6-7 hundred (if you have to buy an engine,and all the parts),and that doesnt include welding.But it will vary a great deal according to what engine you choose,and the availability of USED parts.Hope that helps.which bike is the best, Karizma or enfield?
I know that you do not want a smart as s answer so I won't give you one. However, after reading Aaron's answer I hope you see that it would be a huge and difficult project. Engine swaps almost never work out, I am a mechanic, I have all the tools and welding equipment and I would not attempt such a thing, because the end result would not be worth the trouble and expense.Do yourself a favor, repair your old bike, or sell it as is and save for something newer
