try ebay or your local papers. now is the time to buy as sellers will accept less money...in theory...remember to budget for insurance - it can be expensive. Any 125 will easily commute 40miles a day. There is a bike club for 125cc riders...try finding them at www.125bikers.co.uk oh your'e better buying second hand so you don't take a battering with depreciation. I don't know of any 125cc bikes these days, except for street-legal dirt bikes...Personally, I would recommend a Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Those are definitely the one to learn on, and they can easily get around 60 MPG. I bought a Ninja 500R, and that was just a little bit too much for me to start out on. I bought a 250R that same week, and learned on the 250. Then I rode the 500 after learning how to ride the 250. Since I had both to ride, I out-grew the 250 after 1 month. I have ridden the 500 for 41 months now, and I have not yet out-grown that.

Personally, I would *STRONGLY* recommend getting a small bike that has been *tipped* over (tip-overs have dents, scratches, and cracks.) Lay-downs (while moving) have road rash. Tip-overs are generally in parking lots or in garages, and get no mechanical damage.

If you are a first time rider, you will tip it over at some time or another, and that alone can take 33% of the value off your bike instantly. So get one that already has a small amount of damage.

People seem to keep telling you to buy an Aprilia. But they must be forgetting that you live in the US. There might be a few dealerships in the US, and all Aprilias are over-priced, since they are 'exotic.' Don't go Aprilia. Everybody has their own opinion, and thinks that you should do it the same way they did it. So choose wisely...

I had a runner when i turned 17. Not the crap 4 stroke one, but a 2 stroke. The best ones to modify. Dont buy a new 1 always buy 2nd hand. Mine was a 1999 V reg. Standard for 1 year, then i started to tune it. Malossi bore kit,malossi race crank. You name it i had it. I managed, no messing, 92mph. That was with standrad gear ratio's. With 180 gears, easy hit 110mph. Wheelied from 45mph. So much power it was unreal. I wont it back! Not practical any more tho.
