What is a good way to remove large scratches and marring from the fork legs on my motorcycle?

Question:
While riding on the highway I was hit by a piece of metal trim, possibly from the wheel well of an old truck or something. it was a long piece and hit the forks between the headlight and the front tire, and kinda wrapped itself around. I pulled over quickly to get rid of it, but it had made a lot of scratches on the fork metal and to the plastic fender over the tire. Bummer!!

The aluminium will have a plastic type of coating on it but you might be able to polish it out with some Autosol and green scourer if it is not too deep.
