Hi,
The bike is 2nd hand, and its an older model I think about 2001. It has a kickstart with a lever on the left handle bar, however Im not sure what Im meant to do ie do I press this lever in whilst attempting to kick start? Or press it in once just before commencing to kick start it? So far nothing I have tried works. Im assuming the bike's meant to be in neutral. Anyhelp would be much appreciated.

--Pull in the compression release lever (handle bars) and kick start it fast (that will blow out old fuel, and suck in some fresh fuel).--Without trying to start the bike, s-l-o-w-l-y push down on the kick start lever.
--You'll feel feel the kick start lever getting harder to push. That means the piston is moving up on it's compression stroke.
--Pull in the compression release lever a little bit to allow the piston to move to the top of the compression stroke, while you're pushing the kick start lever.
--You'll feel no more pressure on the kick start when the piston gets to the top and starts on the way down.
--Stop everything. Let the kick start lever return. Let go of the compression release lever.
--Turn everything on - key, gas, choke, kill switch.
--Kick it as hard and fast as you can!
A couple of extra things to try - every bike has it's own starting "idiosyncrasies". Try one at a time, mix some together, change the amounts (throttle opening/compression release opening).
--Hold open the throttle a tiny bit when starting.
--Roll open the throttle as you're kicking it.
--Pull the compression release lever a tiny bit and hold it there (just enough to allow the piston to push through every compression stroke and not enough to permit the exploded fuel to escape).

The left handle is the clutch. Hold while kicking it over. Should it not start, try the good old push start. Simply role down a hill or have someone push you on the bike while holding in the clutch. Place the bike into 1st gear and release the clutch FAST once you reach about 10-15 mph. This should kick over the engine to start the bike.Is this a decent deal on a Honda CBR motorcycle??
That lever you refer to is the compression release to make it easier to start.Yes hold it in while you kick start it.On some bikes you just use the compression release to find top dead center but then release it before you actually start the bike. The easy way would be to recharge the battery if possible, but if you are posting the question I guess that's not an option. If you decide to push start it, please don't be in first gear and pop the clutch at 10 plus mph. The back tire will slide out from under you or throw you off. Believe me second gear is better suited for jump starts. Plus don't jump start from a car battery either. You can burn some electronics that way. Good Luck.More Questions & Answers ...
