Most bikes do not have a gas guage. So you put the lever to ON and ride until you run out of gas then you put in on RESERVE , start up again and head for the gas station. Then put it back to ON.

So you know when you REALLY need to find a gas station right now. A lot of bikes don't have gas gauges, and I wouldn't trust the gauges that are on the bikes that do. I always use my trip meter as a fuel gauge knowing how many miles I can go before hitting reserve and fill up before that point - if you go that far without finding a gas station, the reserve can get you about another 30 miles.

"Reserve" is installed on bikes that don't have fuel gauges that let you know when you're running low on fuel.
No one pays attention to how much fuel they have left in their tank.
They don't usually check their fuel level every time they stop (they should).
Without a reserve, if one were to run out of gas, they'd have to start walking!
With a reserve, you can ride along and enjoy yourself without worrying about insignificant things, like "how much gas do I have left?".
When you run out of gas, switch to reserve. There should be enough gas to ride 10 -20 miles to find a gas station.

What happened to the two supersport racers who crashed sunday, are they OK?

It's a gas reserve so you should always have enough gas to get to a gas station. Not many motorcycles have fuel gages. Also note that fuel injected motorcycles, to my knowledge, never have reserves but instead have a "low fuel" indicator and/or fuel gage. Running out of fuel in fuel injection motors over time can damage the injectors. The fuel acts as the lubricant in the injectors.

What do i have to do to get a motorcycle liscence?

When you run out of gas it gives you a little more. This only helps if you keep it off. You turn it to that position after you run out of gas. My Honda doesn't have a fuel indicator so it has come in handy.
