Question:
It's a 87 suz. intruder. At first I had to hold the start button for a few seconds before it would initiate. Over a few weeks the time span began to increase, and now it takes an unreasonable amount of time to the point that the battery is very drained. Would this be a starter/wiring/solenoid problem? Please help, it's sunny today...

buy a new battery and a little trickle charger at walmart cheap. leave it hooked up every night. no more problems regardless o the wiring setup. that is true unless it has cutoff and won't start while you were riding? then haul in to the shop. What are the chances of being killed while riding a motorcycle in Dallas traffic?
Don't overdue the duty cycle of the starter first, you may ruin it. Have you left gas in the tank over a long period of time? the gas is probably stale, ans has lost its octane. Drain the gas completely and put in some fresh. Use premium. If it runs OK , take it for a short test spin, what is the best way to break in new m/c leathers?
Please dispose of the old gas properly.
So my motorcycle got stolen. now what?
The fact the engine won't start is the reason the starter/batter died. You either have no fuel getting in or a weak spark cause by a fault in the ignition.i have a motorcycle that company is trying to repo,if i hide it ,what will happen?
Check for spark and/or fuel getting to plug.
Starting problems can be caused by the battery, starter, selonoid, spark, gas, etc. If you want to figure this out yourself, I would recommend geting a Clymer or Haynes manual for your bike and following the trouble shooting procedures. As the starting time gradually got worse, it could be something that slowly degrades like the battery or gas. You should be able to start it by pushing or rolling down a hill in second gear with the clutch disenganged, then release the clutch when your up to speed.
Take that thang to the motorcycle repair shop.
Should as a beginner, I buy a Honda Rebel , or a Suzuki GZ250?
This sounds like a problem i had a few years ago. Mine had a kickstand safety that was bad. I disconnected it and never had the problem again. I now have an "04" Shadow.question for Mo. motorcyclist Y .?
Perform a cylinder leak down test. It will tell you if the valves are leaking. Leaking valves will give those symptoms and get worse as time goes on.Quick check -
Adjust the valves. If the clearance is tight, that will cause them to leak.
Change the spark plugs. Partially fouled plugs will still work, but will give a hard starting problem.
