Do motorcycles have an alternator or something that continually charges the battery while it is running?

Question:
I just bought a 1990 Kawasaki EX500. The day after I picked up the bike I went to start it and all it did was click. So I took the battery and had it charged and tested and it was good. I brought it home and put it in the bike and it started right up. Then today it wouldn't start again so I charged the battery and it started right up. I went for a ride and stopped to talk to a friend at the beginning of my subdivision so I shut off the bike. When I went to start it all it did was click so I had to walk it home. I was just wondering if there is an alternator or something that continually charges the battery while it is running to keep it charged up so that you can start the bike the next time.

What is considered high and low mileage for a motorcycle?

motorcycles do not have alternators or generators they run off of a magneto that charges as the bike runs the faster the rpm the more charge let the bike idle then rev it up if the head light gets brighter its working then get a battery also check battery connections. do this test in the dark so you can see the bulb get brighter easier .

Has any one installed chromed handlebar grips on a Honda CBR1100xx Blackbird? If so, HOW!!?

It sounds like your connections ar bad, perhaps the ground to the frame. I would check those first. Your bike does have an "alternator". It is called a stator coil, it is hooked directly to the crank shaft. I imagine this is fine however. If you charged the battery when getting itchecked, then I bet it is bad. Those little load testers they use are not always accurate. Check all your power connections. If they are all good, get a new battery.

If I remember correctly there are two brushes on the EX 500 alternator.Call your Dealer and confirm. They are probably in need of replacement. With a volt meter check to see if the charge voltage is over 12.5 volts with lights on ,motor running. The starter also has brushes that may be worn out.
