Leather is great. I've got several jackets, 2 textile joe rocket jackets and an Alpinestars leather jacket.I was in an accident on the interstate in november at 80mph and after bouncing off the road, I was hit by a semi-truck, going over the hood and fender, landed in the road and came to a stop, then I got up and stumbled off the lane of traffic where I collapsed. I had on my full face helmet, leather jacket, jeans, leather shoes. My shoes came off and I had severe road rash from my knees down, including on my toes and bottom of my feet, a broken rib, lacerated liver, collapsed lung, and a fractured anlke. I was life-flighted to the hospital where I spent 6 days.
However, my leather jacket sustained only scrapes on it and discoloration where its scuffed. If I'd had a textile jacket on, I may not be in the great condition that I am now.
If you're worried about being hot in the summer, they make perforated leather that allows some air to flow through. If its really really hot, wear a textile, but keep in mind it doesn't offer the same protection. If textiles were so great, why don't pro racers wear it? At higher speeds, the heat from friction against the road melts the synthetic material and your skin, fusing them together.
Keep it upright and between the lines.
well it depends . the leather one is hot and heavy but it will protect u better than any other jacket...and the text is cooler not that heavy...will also protect u but not as much as leather...plus text is cheaper than leather..hope this helps laterz

Leather jackets last almost forever (my first one made it almost 20 years), but are hot in the afternoon summer sun. There are some new microfiber type jackets that are much more summer friendly (they breathe alot more). I own one of each. The leather jackets are a little cheaper (you can get a good enough one for a bit over $100). Leather jackets are designed to absorb the road rash in the event that one goes down. They also keep the wind off you but don't do much for warmth on cold days, the rider must wear a sweater under the jacket. Sounds like you are new to motorcycles. You better go with the leather. Some motorcycle riders go with the leather for the look as do some who don't ride. Leather is more protection than textile when you are sliding down the highway with a bike on top of you. Think rug burn is bad?Leather also lets you control the wind chill factor so you can enjoy your ride without freezing. The bugs wipe off easier than on textile too. Live in the wind.

There are many good leather jackets out there that are vented. I am in Texas and wear leather all the time. I tossed out textile a long time ago. Most of the guys I ride will are the same way. They race, do track days, and ride on the street. Seeing the results will make you think about safe gear.

Another great way to protect yourself is a leather suit. Ok, not practical all the time but weekends hitting the twisties and track days they are the best. We have suits as little as $291.96 shipped. I would recommend the AGV Forza, AGV SP4 or the Alpinestars Stage suit. They are all well vented and have great airflow.

I wear my vented suit even when it 110 deg out. In that temp it actullay keeps you cooler because the suns heat is not getting to your skin. No your not cool, just cooler.
