why do people think 4 stroke dirtbikes are the future.?

do some research bro. a gsxr is a high powered crotch rocket that will kill u the 1st mistake u make on a twisty road. u need to get a good feel for how a bike leans in the curves first. tho a cruiser would be 2 or maybe 3x's slower than a crotch rocket, at least it will give u enough time to learn how to set up a curve, enter, and egress staying up. believe me, there's more to it riding on a twisty road than it looks. street is an entirely different animal than dirt.

what came first the harley davison or the village people?

a mid-weight cruiser like a vulcan, a dyna wide or deuce from harley will be enough to get u built up alot safer than just relying on luck. sooner or later luck runs out. on a sport bike, a beginner dont have very much luck.

a 600 is a pretty big bike to start (or re-start) out with - even on good roads let alone on old farm land or similar terrain

Go buy a used 250 something.. and keep it for a few months. Figure you are going to lay it over or dump it at least once in that time and plan for that experience with a good helmet and gear.
