Do not bother to get an automatic, you may as well learn the right way. Take the MSF course. For your first bike you may want to get something a little bigger than you are comfortable with so you don't outgrow it too soon. The Suzuki Bandit is great, unless you want a cruiser. I will say, if you have never ridden a bike before and I mean not on the back of one, then start small and take the corse! Always think about how well you want you skin and limbs and do all the safe things or you will regret your choice!! Always respect the bike or the bike will disrespect you in the end. The Suzuki GS500E is a great bike to start on. I don't think starting out on a 250 is the best thing unless you are a small person, because in a matter of weeks, you will have outgrown it and want something bigger. The GS500 E will keep you happy for a few years. The motor has been around for near 25 years, and I never had a problem with mine in 3 years and 46k miles. I'd stay with a 2005 and older, as they didn't have all the fairings because you will drop your first bike whether you think you will or not.Here is a great site.

Take a local MSF BRC (Beginners Riding Course) before you even buy a motorcycle. Too many people have bought one, taken the course, ride for 400 miles and decide it's not for them. Ask your MSF instructor about bike selection. DO NOT buy a sport bike your first time out! It will probably scare that crap outta you and you won't ever want to ride again. My first bike was a honda. very dependable and easy to ride. I started with something smaller and graduated up as my experience and confidence came up. The first year is just learning to lean into the turns, drive safely, parking, and developing the muscles to handle all kinds of situations. First bike was Honda 360T, my newest is a 2006 Kawasaki ex500r (ninja). You have to figure out whether you're a cruiser style, or a rocket style and see which one you're comfortable in one first. I found the scariest experience was handling in a last second situation and avoiding a crash. A touring/cruiser is easier to handle and learn the roads. I like both Honda for its smoothness and ease of driving and prefer the Kawasaki for fun.What the fastest ATV in the world?
Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda are all good bikes. Many people prefer Harleys. You have to actually spend time and either try the different rides. 750cc is a good "meat and potatoes" bike. You can always improve its performance with modifications. You usually buy a bike for comfort and whether you're going to go on long trips or if you're staying within the city. Resale on well kept bikes are good. There's no problem with selling a bike when you're ready to move to a bigger one. Start smaller like a 500 then move up to what you're comfortable with. There's a great history in motorcycles. You get to meet a lot of nice people who can share a lot of exciting experiences. Good luck and enjoy the road.
