Hi, I'm new to Sportsbikes, but I really wanna get one. I'm not so much concerned with the price or model ( i'm pretty sure i wanna get a gsxr 600), but insurance seems to be pretty high. Is there a way to just get insurance the couple of month I WILL be riding the bike. I live in NY and only want insurance for like 3 or 4 month is that possible?

I'm in Wisconsin, and I'm guessing the policies would be similar. They do have different rates for how many months of the year that you ride. I never had to worry about getting different plates here though, so maybe thats different. Wisconsin doesn't force you to have insurance, although its crazy not to. Pretty sure that most of the big insurance companies can handle short term policies. Give them a call to find out how much and for how long you desire coverage. Be forewarned, however, that when the insurance expires, you'll have to turn in the plate and then re-register it next time, which can be a hassle!Yes.Northern States have what's called winter storage insurance where the bike is stored for so many months out of the year due to winter conditions. Ask your insurance company. If your a brand new rider and under 25 years old be prepared for a very high insurance bill.

When I lived in NY I had what was called 9/12 suspended insurance. You didn't need to specify what months you were riding. If you go with a policy that doesn't last 12 months, you'll have to turn in your plates when your insurance expires and get them again when you insure the bike in the spring. I lived north of Buffalo so I didn't get to ride a lot in the fall or winter so the 9/12 was the way to go. I could keep my plates and saved a trip to the DMV and if it was nice in November or December I could still ride. BTW, the best motorcycle rates I've found are with Progressive. If yours is much higher than that, there is a reason.Insurance companies charge you according to decades of data that say newbie squids tend to wad the bike up within a couple months, and they want to get their cash before you end up eating through an IV drip for the rest of your life.

I don't know what insurance companies there are in NY. But I live in Indiana and we have an insurance company called Farm Bureau. In Illinois its called Country Companies. They had the best rates on bikes by far. I had an 02 Cbr 929. Progressive wanted 2000 for the season, Allstate and the rest of the big names were the same. Farm Bureau was 450 for the year.What's a good website to find motorcycle parts?
