Question:
When I try to start my 2003 Honda Shadow VLX the battery just makes a clicking noise, the head light stay's on? I think It's the battery. I have it in the garage, it did get cold (Calif. cold) and I haven't started for a couple of months. HELP, trying to sell it next month :)

If you live on a hill you can get it rolling down the hill and get it started.Sounds like the battery.
Get a "batter tender" or borrow one and attach it to the battery.
Charge it up and start the bike up. Take the bike for a ride and be sure to keep the rpm's up as there are many Honda's that wont charge the battery while the motor is idling. If you let it idle, it wont charge the battery, it will just kill it.
If you dont want to spend the cash on a battery charger, I have heard of some people that jump start their bikes with a car battery(MAKE SURE THE CAR ISNT RUNNING). Ive never tried this method though.

It DOES sound like it's the battery. You can either plug it into a battery-tender as suggested earlier, or just jump it with a car.Do people who think little bikes are not good for beginners or vets, fun, fast .?
As far as whether or not the engine should be running in the car.well.*personally*, I've jump started my 2002 Honda Superhawk (VTR 1000...996 cc V-Twin engine, not fuel injected) with my truck.with the engine running...several times...and have had no problems. I'm not gonna recommend you try it, but I'm not gonna recommend against it, either.

Recharging may be what the batt. needs,U should get at least 5 years out of an original batt.,the other ans. sounds good and thats what I would do too.First ans.EDIT--Otherwise get rid of the old Honda and get yourself a good SUZUKI,that will start with the shaking of a key,lol.Get a battery charger. Put it on the lowest 12 volt setting, possibly 2 amps or trickle charge. Allow the battery to slowly charge to full charge as indicated on the battery charger guage. If the battery is still good, when the indicator shows that the battery is drawing 0amps, then it is 100% charged. So you will see the indicator needle move slowly down to 0. If it starts at 0 and stays at 0, your battery is too damaged to draw any amps to take a charge. Go to Walmart and get a battery for $25.

Otherwise you can start the bike by pushing the bike and popping the clutch. If you do this, put the bike in 2nd gear not 1st. If you try to push start a bike in 1st gear you risk throwing an engine rod.

Battery tender. Install it. Some have indicator lights Charging, charged, or trouble lights to indicate what its doing. I got one at walmart for 17.00 try that before spending $ on a battery let it charge for a day and see what happens.Seems you are missing that he says THE HEADLIGHT STAYS ON. if the battery is low/dead pushing the start button should make the light dim or go out.
make sure the transmission is IN NEUTRAL. The clutches can get sticky with lack of use. Just pulling the clutch lever and trying to start - may not break loose the clutch - if it is in gear. i suggest invest in cheap voltmeter. Ck batt voltage. the voltage indicates level of charge and battery strength when cranking. need over 12 V. a "strong" battery will be 12.5 or higher. ck voltage while pushing starter button. if V goes down to 5-6 or lower batt is "dead". If it stays as high as 9-10 the engine should crank - unless the starter is bad or the engine is froze up.

it's your battery, check the water in it, if it is low fill it with distilled water ONLY, than charge it with no more than one amp trickle charger. battery tender is best, you can get one at MC shop for about $30. or jump start or push start and ride it afew miles.buying new battery is not a bad option, might enhance value of bike slightly Good luck ftcMore Questions & Answers ...
