Question:
Steps which i can follow when i buy yamaha or suzuki sportbikes. For example what should i take note of and if we are able to trace the past of the bike in singapore.
Answers:
Handlebars, grips, crankcase covers, mirrors, signals, front fender, bodywork, and exhaust replacements could mean it was damaged or dropped.
Check the underside of the cases and exhaust for damage that might indicate rough usage.
The front fork tubes should be clean, and show no streaks of fork oil.
Check all fluids for full and viscosity. If the oil is dirty, feels gritty, or smells burnt, it has not been changed regularly. Check final drive gear lube the same way if it's shaft driven.
Look at the sprockets, if chain driven, and see that they haven't developed a hook shape to the points of the sprocket. There should still be some adjustment to the chain tension.
Start the engine when it's cool and watch for smoke, thick blue smoke that kinda hangs in the air indicates oil usage, while white smoke may indicate coolant if it's water cooled.
Ride it.
It shouldn't pull to one side or the other, either on a straight or in the corners. It should brake smoothly, without too much front end dive when you stab at the brakes. It should ride smoothly through moderately rough roads with out a lot of excess noise.
The engine should rev up smoothly and return to idle quickly after you let off the gas.
Check all electricals and make sure the gauges light and work well.
And finally, don't be afraid to tell the seller that you are going to take it to your mechanic for a check up BEFORE you buy it.
As with any used vehicle purchase, the best advise is always 'buyer beware'.
Uralmoto, wolf 750, does anyone out there ride one?
Check online for HYOSUNG motorcycles. They have a new 650 that prices comparably to used bikes of other makes. I had one of their 250 street bikes, and it was GREAT!Look at them in person. Spankin' new bodywork and a dirty chain = racebike. Tiny holes drilled into bolts for safety wire = racebike. Scratches on the swingarm or bars with perfect bodywork = racebike. Water in the cooling system = racebike. Chipped paint or "puckered" metal around the headtube = crash damage. Leaking fork seals = too many wheelies or stunting.
'07 Yamaha R6 or '07 Suzuki GSX-R600?
A well-maintained bike will be reasonably worn out all over with a good maintenance record and no leaking seals.
