Find out where these types of shops are in your town, state, etc. Speak with the owner...don't talk to any current wrenches (mechanics) Tell him you are wanting to get in on the ground floor of building bikes.
Understand there will be a lot of floor sweeping, trash dumping and thankless jobs to do first. This is a test to see how willing you are and how much hard work you can accomplish.
