A very slow one. You need training and not just from your uncle. Go to a school sponsored by the motorcycle safety foundation. I would not get more than 500cc on a sport bike to start; they have a lot of torque and you will get hurt or killed quickly.Where can I go to have customized footpegs made?

Why not start with a Buell Blast and work up from there. You can get a used one pretty cheap, they are very forgiving, and fun to ride. I learned on a Buell. Advanced to a small Harley. Now ride a big metric cruiser.

The first thing you should do is take the MSF course. You'll learn a lot. Take that knowledge and make your decision as to what bike to get. The 250 Ninja is great bike as are both 500's that I mentioned. Some would say that an SV650 or 650 Ninja are ok as well. Only you can decide that.
What is it about goldwing motorbikes?
Stay away from the inline 4 600's. While they may be lower on displacement than say an SV650, they are much faster and will be harder to learn the basics on.

well if you're looking at new bikes then no bigger than a 500, a 250 is good if you're not gonna go any faster than in town driving since they don't have the greatest amount of go to them. If you go older just remember to check the repair prices (plastic, clip ons things that get damaged in a fall). the older 700cc Honda's are good for learning due to the slow progression of the throttle so a little mistake won't cost you and they are very forgiving to the driver in corners check the vfr link site for pics I got people asking me to sell mine everyday i took it out good looks great ride and faster than allot of people think. any way in ca the min. age is 16 lust like a car but with allot more restrictions just get yourself to a training program there's more than looking cool and going fast to a street bike.
