Question:
In the service manual for my GSXR it says to turn the filter two full turns after initial contact... which is way more than you can do without the wrench. I usually just hand tighten the filters. Should I go out and buy a filter wrench?

Not necessary, plus its usually impossible to get a wrench in there on a sport bike. I twist mine tight by hand. I have never had any leakage, sometimes they are so tight to remove I have to stick them with a screwdriver.Gas tanks 2003 fxdl dynalow rider?

I know on my bike (not a Gixxer though) I have to use the wrench. I also hand tighten the filter on all of my cars and tried to do the same on my bike but oil leaked out.I would definately reccomend getting the wrench!

It's mostly to be sure that the oil filter is on tight and securely. You should use one, but it's not necessarily needed. But it's nice to be safe and make sure it won't come loose and fall out or anything... If you do get one, get a decent one, not a cheap one... cheap ones bend or break... I found the better ones to be kinda like a chain, and not just a metal material.I wanna learn the motorcycle willy.?
I would also suggest you buy the wrench as the motor usually runs at a very high rpm range thus causing a lot of vibration that can back off the filter causing a leak which has a slight chance of getting on your rear wheel and possibly causing a loss of traction as you are peeling off your chicken strips..Where I can buy a good cheap motorcycle?
Plus just think they make track bikes safety wire all bolts so they do not vibrate out so there is a lot of vibration going on in the 10k rpm range.
Whats the difference in aCBR250RR engine and a Hornet 250 engine?
Sure - to put it on, AND to get it off after it has been sitting there cooking for 3500 miles. Also, if you ever take it to the shop and they crank it 2.5 turns, you'll need the wrench for the next oil change. Get the type that fits over the top of the filter like a socket, not the type that wraps around the outside with a band - they are much easier to work with. For beginners, I would never suggest tightening an oil filter with an oil filter wrench. It's very easy to over tighten it and cause it to leak (after you've changed them a good many times, you can judge the correct tightness).
Wet the o-ring with oil.
Install the filter until it touches the engine.
Then tighten it hand tight until it stops..
