Problem with Yamaha Virago 250?

Question:
I have put in 2 fully charged batteries, by the time i get to my destination the battery is flat. Any suggestions as to what the problem is. Why isnt it keeping a charge

It could be a bad "stator" or "regulator/rectifier". The parts cost about $250 & $100. Time to take it to a shop to check the charging system.

I have a honda shadow sprit VT750DC 2002 does it come stock with forged pistons?

The problem is probably both reg- rectifier and stator these are designed to crap out after they run out of warranty some last longer, what happens is a diode in the rectifier shorts, this lets power from the battery run back to the stator which because the windings are too light burns out the stator even with the key off,
The cure is to get your stator rewound , using a slightly heavier guage wire and replace your reg- rectifier with a 6 or 9 diode rectifier then if a diode blows again the power cannot run back to the stator and if it does it will not burnout the stator, this is a fault they build in to all jap bikes, i have talked to the top technicians at both Kawasaki and Yamaha and they informed me of this innovation which they are quite aware of but will do nothing about because it is outside warranty and helps them to sell parts. On some Suzuki's it also spikes the cdi and blows that too, velly expensive.
rewinding and doing as i say is a cheaper option and i guarantee it wont happen again

You could have a bad rectifier(this would cause the battery to run down over night and also would not charge in use.)If your charging system uses brushes theye could be worn.(if so replace and try before changing rectifier.
