If you just want to go a little faster then you could replace the rear sprocket with a 31 or 30 (I think the stock one is a 33).Any problems with the yamaha yz250f (4stroke)?
And there are carb jet mods which are supposed to increase performance also. Dynojet I think makes one.

Honestly I wouldn't spend much money trying to upgrade those little bikes. They're a cool beginner bike, but when you start wanting something faster and more powerful, there's only so much you can do with the rebel. IMHO it sounds like you're outgrowing the little rebel and are ready for a bigger bike.

If it's the 250cc one, you need to sell it and get a motorcycle with a bigger engine. The Yamaha Virago 700, from the same year, is as cool as a Rebel, and can go freeway/highway speeds without straining.More Questions & Answers ...
