Question:
Right, a freind of a friend of a friend..etc
bought a motorcycle, which is perfectly legal has a current V5 etc etc... BUT the frame is as rotton as a peach..
So this Freind was wandering what is the legal stance on obtaining another identical model frame from a bike breakers which has no logbook, but is perfectly legal and 100% checked for safety and grinding off the VIN numbe, building it up with weld and replacing it with the numbers off the rotton one?.(using correct font and size lettering)
To motorcyclists: Do you negotiate the price of a motorcycle? If so, how?
Please dont just write a short answer, i would like to know the legal stance on it. As i tried to find info on this, which i suspect is illegal, but can only find about cloaning and ringing, which this doesnt really apply to this. This is transfering an identity

LOL!NO!
Use the secondhand frame, and send the frame number to the DVLA, to change the log book details!
Why a two stroke diesel engine is not used for for two wheelers ?
Can't be legal. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Don't do it. You can get a legal logbook for the second frame if it's not dodgy, then rebuild the bike on that frame and re-register it. That's the only way to do it right. What are pitbikes desighned for.?

buy your frame, and fill your log book in with the new number and send it to swansea..if its nicked, youll find out fast enough... if not they will ammend your V5 and post it back.

How do you open the seat on a yamaha scooter?
OK So it is illegal to "grind off " and re stamp the frame as you are disguising the original. However you can either rebuild with the replacement frame and then register that frame number with DVLA and you should not have to re-register the bike as you are not changing anything that the dealership would not be able to do in the event of them repairing it for you if it were and insurance repair.Motorcycle gear online stores? where do you shop?
The other way is to have the number of the roiginal stamped on an independant plate and fixing that to your replacement frame near the original position but not over the top. This will show that you have legitimate reason to show the two vin numbers and that there is no illegal intent . This will unfortunately be off putting to any prespective buyer at a later time.
Silkolene pro fst, how do i use it?
Me, I would register the replacement frame to the original vehicle at DVLA and a legitimate replacement
So, i want a motorcycle. I'm 19 years(will be 20 in July)...?
i would positively say yes you can do this legally, you need a purchase receipt for the doner frame, it must have the frame number visible, now if the number on the origanal frame is intact and visible you cut the number from the frame and then place it next to the doner number taking care not to hide any numbers and affix to frame via welding or riveting.i used to do this with cars when i repaired writeoffs, i,d buy a used bodyshell legally and do the change over. totally legal.
ps. obtain a checkable receipt for your frame. good luck!
Can i ride a motorcycle in ireland on a full uk licence?
Firstly to do what your friend wants will only result in a frame that looks like it's been stolen. No one will want to buy it. Ever.If the rust is natural just leave it.
If you really want a frame number then transfer all your parts to the new frame and re-register it to that frame.
Just ask yourself a question though, what law abiding person has a good conditioned frame and logbook lying around?
