dont even think about gettin a high powered crotch rocket until u have at least 2 years of serious saddle time under ur belt with cruisers first. a rocket will kill u with the 1st mistake u make; they do what the rider tells it to do instantly, even if it will cause a crash. they are not forgiving.there's more to ridin a bike than just gettin on the saddle. after u go thru the msf course, u'll find that out.
cagers are our #1 enemy out there. they dont see u. on a rocket, they will miss seeing u even more than on a big cruiser. there's alot of things that wont agree with 2 wheels: road gators, sand, gravel, oil, braking when leaned over, animals just for starters.

Get a car. You can get a pretty decent car for the same price as a bike, plus you can bring home two gallons of milk from the store. You won't get wet when it rains, you won't be cold when it's winter, you'll have air conditioning when it's hot. Plus you can hold a conversation with your passenger(s) while driving. Be smart man. Learn to ride on something you dont mind dropping. While learning how to ride, remember this small tip: YOU ARE INVISIBLE. No one sees you and no one is looking for you - you must remain 110% focussed on riding at all times. Ride defensively. Cage drivers are freakin maniacs....especially while puttting on makeup in rush hour traffic and drinking a latte and the phone rings....

Last tip: you get what you pay for. PLEASE DO NOT purchase riding gear like helmets or jackets at WALMART. Go to a real motorcycle gear store and pay hefty amounts for GOOD protection. When you need it, you dont want it to be crap quality...

Attend the motorcycle safety course! For God's sake, wear proper gear (no matter how hot it is outside) and ride like other people don't see you because more times than not, they don't see you! Start off with something for BEGINNERS do not listen to the guy that suggested a zx14, it's one of the fastest production models out there and not even worth it for street use. Get something under 600 cc.Good luck and be careful out there.

Ask yourself what needs/wants you want from a bike. For example, do just want to save $ on gas (who doesn't?), do you want to go as fast as possible, do you like to go for long rides & if so, what style of bike will be most comfortable for me, is there a dealer close by if you need service/parts/upgrades....on and on ad nauseum. Plunge into it, look at alot of different bikes, talk to salespeople, friends who have bikes & go for it dude!owner reports on kawasaki motorcycle,i.e. vulcan 1500?
Glad you're still thinking about it. My suggestion would be DON'T: those machines are the worst vehicles to drive on the road. The human body can take a hard pounding and survive it but in a bike accident the pounding can kill. With the idiots on the roads today you have a better chance of meeting one of them at eighty klicks an hour before you meet God!! No joke. I don't care how responsible a biker is on the road. It's the others on the road that I worry about.If you're still thinking on it then think twice about it.

The first thing is If you can't touch the ground (Flat) it isn't a good Idea to get the bike.Second,....don't get a bike for speed. Too many people get crouch rockets and wind up dead. Wait for those when you have alot of experience riding.
I agree with the person that said about buying leathers. Don't by them from walmart and such. It cost more from shops but safety is more important. You want to keep your skin.

Depends on your experience and preferrence. Do you want to speed or cruise? If you're a newby. I agree with the answer of buying a cheap learner bike. You can buy a decent bike for a grand and sell it a year or two later for not much of a loss. It'll save you money if you drop it. My experience I bought a Honday Magna that treated me good. I got a lot of riding experience on that. Then I bought a Fatboy that I love. I've had that for years. If you buy a learner bike then walk around motorcycle dealers and get an idea what you want. If you smile alot, get a helmet with a face shield......Other than that, most of the advice here is right on. Start small, under 500cc. TAKE a rider course. KNOW your abilities. NEVER EVER drink and ride, and avoid riding at night for awhile, until you're really comfortable with day riding. Wear proper protection, no shorts, flip flops, t-shirts. Get a good quality full face helmet, and a decent leather jacket, gloves and boots.
